Welcome aboard the Knowledge Train. In this podcast we explore insights and tips to help you manage your way to success in your career and business. I’m Simon Buehring, your conductor on this journey to knowledge and I’m thrilled to have you with us today.

In today’s episode, we’re going to look into the longevity and renewal of PRINCE2 qualifications as well as the advantages of joining the AXELOS membership scheme. We’ll answer some of the most pressing questions about PRINCE2 validity and how the membership can benefit you. So, let’s get rolling!

First stop: a common question that reaches our inbox: “How long is my PRINCE2 Foundation certificate valid for?” The answer is simple: it’s yours for life. It’s a lifetime qualification that stands with you as you forge ahead in your career. Should you ever misplace this precious document, a replacement is just an inquiry away from the examining body that issued it.

Moving on to the PRINCE2 Practitioner status, things differ slightly. The validity of your PRINCE2 Practitioner credential depends on when you achieved it. If your success came before the last day of December 2017 and was based on the 2009 syllabus, congratulations, you’re a Registered PRINCE2 Practitioner for five years.

Crossing over to those who passed after January 1st, 2018, the status changes slightly, with recognition as a PRINCE2 Registered Practitioner set to a timeframe of three years.

The inevitable question arises, “Does PRINCE2 expire?” Well, to reiterate, the Foundation certificate is enduring – it does not expire. However, the PRINCE2 Practitioner qualification does indeed have an expiration date, corresponding to three years from the date of certification. To maintain this status, candidates need to retake the Practitioner exam after this period.

Now, let’s talk about the PRINCE2 Register. This is a platform run by AXELOS which showcases those who have taken the PRINCE2 exams. Appearing on this list is voluntary and is only possible if you have requested for your achievement to be publicly acknowledged. This transparency can be invaluable for verification purposes and professional credibility.

On to the topic of AXELOS Membership. Introduced in 2017, it’s an exclusive online service targeting the vast community of IT and project management professionals. Perfect for those who have attained accredited qualifications such as PRINCE2, MSP, or PRINCE2 Agile, membership is a gateway to a plethora of job support tools and resources. The annual fee is nominal when weighed against the bounty of benefits it bestows.

What’s in store for AXELOS members, you ask? A treasure trove of Best Practice guides, bespoke content, templates, and an array of tools to bolster your role. Not forgetting the Continuous Professional Development, or CPD, tracking tool, a cornerstone of the membership that aids in keeping your certification fresh and current.

CPD points are the currency of professional evolution. Gained through various professional activities, these points are tallied in your portal and serve to maintain the relevance of your qualifications. With each CPD point, you ensure that your knowledge remains in lockstep with industry standards, ultimately being rewarded with a digital badge to signify your ongoing commitment to excellence.

Speaking of which, the digital badge is more than a mere icon; it embodies your qualifications and can be effectively displayed across your digital presence – on LinkedIn, email signatures, and your online resume. To keep this badge current, engage in professional development activities, recording 20 CPDs every year, thus extending the validity of your certification.

The CPD system’s impact on PRINCE2 has been transformative. Gone are the days of re-registering every five years; now, the Practitioner status is set to expire after three. Your options are clear: either take the exam anew or engage with AXELOS membership and CPD points to extend your qualification year by year.

Lastly, let’s consider the advantages of AXELOS Membership. Emulating the CPD systems already in place by PMI and APM, AXELOS Membership equips you with authoritative resources and tools directly sourced from the creators of the methodology. More than this, the CPD system provides a cost-effective and valuable alternative to maintain your certification, ensuring your professional credentials remain updated and recognised.
